Our latest book, MindStory Inner Coach
is about to be born. It’s literally 9 months to the day from when we conceived it. Strange but true. Lately people have asked us “What’s it like to write a book with your life partner?”
Here’s our top 7 reasons, in case you’re thinking of exploring that possibility yourself:
#1 – WE KNOW EACH OTHER SO WELL: We’d both written books before, on our own or with other people – but here we knew each other so well, it was actually much easier than we anticipated.
#2 – 40 YEARS: We were drawn to each other right from the start, in part, because of our similar background in the psychology of performance. So we could combine 20 years each of experience for a total of 40 years!
#3 – HIGHER CREATIVITY: Some couples have kids in common, we create projects. Carla brings a more feminine style to her coaching and leadership, while Dave brings more masculine style. Any model for coaching we thought, needs to have both. We live in a world made up of opposites, so true creativity needs to come from the collaboration of both. The sum becomes greater than the whole.
#4 – FASTER WRITING: It went much faster, was more fun.
#5 – LESS LONELY: They say writing is a lonely profession, unless you have a writing partner!
#6 – ACCOUNTABILITY: It got done!! Writing alone means you’re only accountable to yourself, whereas writing with someone else meant you had to show up even if you didn’t feel like it.
#7 – We challenged each other’s ideas and so ended up growing both personally and professionally. We had many fascinating conversations about a topic we both love and in the exploration were able to “think outside the box” in a way that would have been harder doing it alone.
If you’ve written a book with someone else….what did you learn from the process?
