Procrastination is the #1 killer of success. It’s when you’re avoiding important tasks that would make the biggest difference in your life, in favor of low priority ones. If you’ve ever done it, welcome to the human condition. It’s very common.
Here are 4 simple ways to stop procrastinating and start doing your important projects.
#1 – Admit it to Yourself
As easy as this may sound, it really isn’t, but it’s always good to start somewhere. Recognizing that you are procrastinating is a good way to avoiding it. Awareness is the key, and blind procrastination can go on for a very long time. Once you’ve done this, it will be easier to stop it entirely and get back to work.
#2 – Break Your Important Project Down into Small Steps
If you are preparing for a presentation, write down the steps in chronological order.
- Step #1 – Brainstorm on all possible ideas.
- Step #2 – Choose top ideas.
- Step #3 – Put the top ideas in order.
- Step #4 – Speak out the presentation onto Voice Memo.
- Step #5 – Get it transcribed at www.Rev.com.
- Step #6 – Memorize it.
#3 – Give Yourself Small Rewards
Small prizes for getting through each step can be very effective! For example, going for a walk to get a coffee. Continuous labor can cause you to become unproductive. .
#4 – Put it in Your Calendar
Try putting your task in your calendar, like you are making an appointment with someone. After doing so, treat it like an appointment you cannot miss.
